For years, the GTV Hacker team has revealed a method for getting root access on Roku devices, but now they operate under the banner exploits.Rs again, specify a software crack for streaming hardware.
According to the RootMyroku developer, Llamasoft, the feat takes advantage of a pair of vulnerabilities to allow a persistent jailbreak-root. This should work on Rokuos V9.4.0 with the Realtek WiFi chip, which includes Roku TVs “almost all” and some of the boxes. Rokuos 10 blocks this particular method, but you may not have received the update yet.
Obviously, this is useful for enthusiasts who want more control of their box, but this presents security problems and on the Githube page, the developer pleads with Roku to follow the other companies to create a scholarship program. This would pay people who find these exploits, giving them more reasons to find and highlight them so that they can be fixed, rather than allowing a harmful activity
